Edward Hutchinson was born in Massachusetts in 1678, the son of Elisha Hutchinson, a judge. He served as Boston's representative to the Massachusetts General Court (1717-1718), judge of the court of common pleas for Suffolk County (1723-1731), chief justice of the Suffolk County Court of Common Pleas (1743-1752), probate judge for Suffolk County (1746-1752), and as an officer in the Massachusetts Militia (1717; 1729-1733).
